One-Click Export
The fastest export in XPress is the one you never open XPress for. From any Confluence page you can produce a finished document in a single click, and it comes out in your house style: a template labelled for pages like it if there is one, otherwise the space’s default template.
Two ways from the page itself
Section titled “Two ways from the page itself”The byline. Under the page title, next to the author and date, there is an Export to PDF entry. Click it and a small panel opens with the export already running - nothing to choose, nothing to confirm. When it finishes, click Download PDF.
The ··· menu. Open the page’s ··· menu and choose Export to PDF (XPress). A small window opens with the export button in it.
Both pick the template the same way - the page’s labelled template, else the space’s default - so whoever exports a page from that space gets the same cover, header, footer and watermark as everyone else. Setting that default is how you make a whole space consistent without asking anyone to learn the settings - see Export Templates.
From the XPress page
Section titled “From the XPress page”Know the page but not where it lives? Open Apps → XPress. Search for it, or pick it from the pages edited most recently, and click Export beside it. Same single click, same template the page itself would use.
Search covers the pages edited in the last few minutes as well as Confluence’s own search, so a page you have just written usually turns up straight away, before Confluence’s search has caught up with it. Not sure of the title? The recently edited list is right below the search box.
When you want to choose
Section titled “When you want to choose”The quick paths deliberately have no options. To pick a different template, switch to HTML, or change anything for this one document, open XPress from the space sidebar instead: there you get the page tree, the template picker, and Adjust for this export.
What comes through
Section titled “What comes through”Exports carry Confluence’s own styling, so the document looks like the page it came from:
- Headings, paragraphs, lists and tables
- Code blocks, with their formatting
- Panels - info, note, warning, success
- Status lozenges, in their colours
- Layout columns
- Emoji
- PNG and JPEG images attached to the page
Two things do not come through, both worth knowing before you rely on them:
- Images that are not PNG or JPEG. SVG, GIF and WebP attachments are not embedded and will be missing. Save them as PNG or JPEG.
- Macros that embed an external website. They come out empty; the rest of the page is fine.
Blog posts too
Section titled “Blog posts too”Blog posts export exactly like pages, from the same entry points.
If it doesn’t finish
Section titled “If it doesn’t finish”XPress runs the export in the background and tells you what happened as it goes. The most common messages, and what to do:
